Domus de janas S’Àcua ‘e is Dolus

Settimo San Pietro CA Sardegna

indicazioni/directions

Very close to Cagliari in southern Sardinia there is the Domus de Janas S'acqua e is dolus, which literally means 'water of pain'. In fact, water from an underground spring seeps into the cave and is said to be drinkable and to heal the pains of those who drink it.

It is a 4,000-year-old Neolithic burial complex consisting of two very dark chambers connected by a small passageway. This is less than a metre high, as is the entrance.

Legend has it that St Peter prayed for a long time while kneeling in the cave, leaving his footprints on the rock. This event is celebrated with a festival at the beginning of September.
